Carnival Evening by Henri Rousseau shows a couple dressed in carnival costumes standing at the edge of a dark winter forest beneath a bright full moon. Bare trees rise around them in thin, tangled lines, while snowy hills and a few small clouds sit in the distance. A dark hut appears to the left, with a tiny face peeking from inside and a street lamp glowing nearby, adding to the strange, dreamlike mood of the painting. 

Henri Rousseau was a self-taught French painter born in 1844 and is best known for his imaginative landscapes and jungle paintings. He built many of his most memorable worlds from his own imagination, along with inspiration from botanical gardens, illustrated books, popular journals, museums, and zoos. Carnival Evening, painted in 1886, is now in the collection of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

This artwork has been carefully restored from the original 1886 painting and is available as a museum-quality reproduction fine art print, with the option to add a real wood frame crafted by our artisan framers.
